Brewery Reviews

Flagstaff

  1. Flagstaff Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • Small location in downtown Flag. Standard brewpub vibe and food.
    • About the Beer:
      • Standard offerings that are all pretty tasty. Nothing fancy, just good craft beer.
  2. Lumberyard Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • Nice chill spot that used to be an old lumberyard right next to the railroad in downtown.
    • About the Beer:
      • Have all the styles of craft beer you expect, but nothing outstanding. Still a fun place to visit.
  3. Mother Road Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • Small location near downtown. There’s not much seating, but the space is very cool since you are surrounded by the brewing equipment!
    • About the Beer:
      • Arguably the best beer in Flagstaff, and possibly the state of AZ (from what I have tried). Definitely go out of your way to visit if you’re in town! I enjoyed their Kolsch Style Ale.

Phoenix

  1. Four Peaks Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • Huge location with plenty of seating inside and out. Basic food offerings.
    • About the Beer:
      • Only putting this here in hopes you steer clear of this place, as they are owned by Anheuser Busch now, so not sure on the quality. They had standard offerings when I was there, but the beer I loved by them was their Pumpkin Porter. I will not be back after learning they sold out.
  2. Helio Basin Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • Huge brewpub that’s in a strip mall. The place has some cool ambient lighting, plenty of seating, and excellent food.
    • About the Beer:
      • They have your standard offerings with the occasional experimental beer. All of the brews I tried were of good quality. I liked the Throwback Triple Double Imperial IPA and Robust Porter.
  3. North Mountain Brewing Co:
    • About the Space:
      • Small location north of Phoenix. Standard brewpub vibe and American food with a few unique options.
    • About the Beer:
      • Standard offerings that are all pretty tasty. Nothing fancy, just good craft beer. I enjoyed their C.R.E.E.M. Golden Ale and CardinAle Red Ale.
  4. O.H.S.O Eatery and Nano-Brewery:
    • About the Space:
      • Old industrial building that has a great vibe, plus plentiful outdoor seating. They have a lot of great elevated food options.
    • About the Beer:
      • They have a few of their nano brews on tap, plus many other guest taps. I found many of their own beers to be delicious! Try the Hoppy IPA or the Turkalicious Biere de Garde.
  5. The Perch Brewery:

    • About the Space:
      • Unique brewpub with a huge outdoor seating area and a rooftop bar. Their main draw is several cages full of rescue birds ranging from parrots to love birds to parakeets. Very unique experience coupled with excellent food!
    • About the Beer:
      • Quite a wide range of styles, so you will have plenty of options. Overall the beer was above average and recommended. Try the Bret Electric Saison or the Rye So Mad Bro Rye IPA.
  6. Phoenix Ale Brewery Central Kitchen:
    • About the Space:
      • Modern dining room with some outside seating. They have your typical American Pub fare.
    • About the Beer:
      • They have your general styles you expect any place, and nothing really stood out to me. The only one I recommend in the Orange Peel IPA, mainly because it’s very refreshing after being out in the hot Arizona heat!
  7. Sleepy Dog Saloon & Brewery:

    • About the Space:
      • Located in a strip mall, this is definitely a hidden gem where locals like to go. They have plenty of indoor seating and a basic food menu.
    • About the Beer:
      • They only had 4 of their beers on tap when I visited, along with several beers from their partner (owner?) Two Brothers Brewing. They had your standard offerings, but their big draw was the Peanut Butter Milk Stout, which was fantastic – highly recommend!
  8. SunUp Brewing Co:
    • About the Space:
      • Small brewpub with bar space plus outdoor seating. Standard pub fare.
    • About the Beer:
      • Many different styles of beer considering how small they are. Most are above average. The one that was truly awesome and unique was the Sour Blossom Prickly Pear Hefe.
  9. Twisted Cactus Brewing Company:

    • About the Space:
      • This one tricked me, as you would think this is a brewery by their name. However, this is only a small restaurant that has several local craft beers. They have some decent BBQ as well.
    • About the Beer:
      • Rotating local drafts – ask your server for a recommendation!
  10. Uncle Bear’s Brewery:

    • About the Space:
      • Big, airy brewpub with lots of seating inside plus a nice patio. They serve basic food offerings, consisting of burgers and pizza.
    • About the Beer:
      • Overall average beer in your standard styles. They have a Peanut Butter Cup Porter that people love, which I found to be decent, but did not live up to the hype. Another beer to try is the Wolfhound Irish Red Ale – a solid beer.

Tucson

  1. Barrio Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • An old, very run down looking building just outside of downtown, which adds to the ambiance. Mainly sandwich offerings for food.
    • About the Beer:
      • Standard beer choices, but they all are really well done. Some of the best beer in Tuscon. I enjoyed the Rae’s Ruby Red IPA and the Copperhead Pale Ale.
  2. Pueblo Vida Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • Chill, smaller brewpub in the heart of downtown with excellent lighting and ambiance.
    • About the Beer:
      • Have quite a selection of beers, ranging from standard ales to unique beers you just have to try! Highly recommend a stop here. I loved the Ella + Galaxy IPA and the Belgian Golden Strong.
  3. Thunder Canyon Brewery:
    • About the Space:
      • Very large brewpub with tall ceilings and plenty of seating. Standard pub fare.
    • About the beer:
      • Have your standard beer offerings, but none of them are outstanding. Overall felt uninspired. The only beers I thought were ok are the Good Vibrations IPA and the Little Red Ryeding Hood Rye IPA.
