Missouri

Here is a list of the numerous breweries that can be found in Missouri! There are more breweries other than Budweiser / Anheuser Busch here than people think (I don’t consider them a real brewery anyways). Don’t waste your time visiting that phony “brewery” and support true, local, craft beer using this guide.  I have personally been to each of these on the list and have included my opinion about each.

Brewery Reviews

 St. Louis

  1. Alpha Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • Small taproom located in downtown.
    • About the Beer:
      • Barrel aged and sour beers are their thing. I didn’t think they had anything that great on tap – only the Nugget Pale Ale and the Shorter Porter were average.
  2. Flying Saucer Draught Emporium:
    • About the Space:
      • Cool restaurant/bar in downtown, right near Busch Stadium. They have some very tasty food offerings. Stop here before or after a game!
    • About the Beer:
      • Ok, so not really a brewery, but I love coming here because they have dozens of styles on tap to choose from, plus more in bottles. One of my favorite beer bars (that can only be found in the South!)
  3. Heavy Riff Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • Kind of a cool place, as it’s more music themed. Have your basic pub grub. Close to the Zoo, if you need a break from the kids 😉
    • About the Beer:
      • Standard offerings, but nothing stood out in my mind. The only one I enjoyed was the Dark End Of The Wheat Deunkelweizen.
  4. Schafly Tap Room:
    • About the Space:
      • Brewpub near the center of downtown with the usual pub grub. They occasionally have live music.
    • About the Beer:
      • Standard beer selection, but nothing was too impressive. The only beer that was delicious was their Milk Chocolate Stout, because those are (usually) always tasty.
  5. Schafly Bottleworks:
    • About the Space:
      • Huge building, with lots of seating indoors and out. If you want to check out Schafly, come to this location.
    • About the Beer:
      • Standard beer selection, but nothing was too impressive. Similar offerings to their Tap Room. The Kolsch and the Hop Trial were decent.
  6. Urban Chestnut Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • They have two locations – I went to the Grove Brewery and Bierhall location, and it was awesome. Huge bar area that overlooks the brewing equipment. They have a self guided brewery tour. Sweet place to hang out.
    • About the Beer:
      • Many specialty and experimental style beers, plus your standard styles of craft beer. Good selection overall, and most were quite tasty. Get their Schnickelfritz Hefeweizen or their Hopfen India Pale Lager.
