New York

New York City is not really known for it’s beer scene. Aside from Brooklyn Brewery, there are not too many well known brewers in the city. Regardless, there are still some unique and fun places to visit.

Brewery Reviews

New York City

  1. Beer Culture:
    • About the Space:
      • This is not a brewery, but they do have an excellent selection of craft beers from the NY area and around the country. This is a cozy, small, hole-in-the-wall feeling type place that is great for chilling with friends and getting some pub grub.
    • About the Beer:
      • Ever changing taps and bottles available – check with the bartender!
  2. Brooklyn Brewery:
    • About the Space:
      • The most well known microbrewery from NYC that has quite a large space with communal style seating. They offer free tours, so the place gets very busy on the weekends, which means you need to come early to get spot!
    • About the Beer:
      • Overall I find the beer to be average, but they do have a quite a few options and specialty beers. Good brewery to try if you’re just getting into craft beer. The West IPA and Defender IPA are good options if you like hoppier beer.
  3. Greenpoint Beer And Ale:
    • About the Space:
      • This is supposed to be a German style brewpub that has a pretty impressive food menu. They place had a really cool vibe to it, and was well worth the trip to Greenpoint.
    • About the Beer:
      • Of all the places I visited in NYC, this one had some of the best beer in town. Their Alt Universe IPA and What even is that? Saison were excellent beers.
  4. Heartland Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • Large chain around the NYC area. They have several locations with each being a little different – one is a chophouse, one specializes in rotisserie, others are just a general brewpub.
    • About the Beer:
      • Very uninspired offerings, so not much else to say about them than this place isn’t worth your time… unless you happen to be near one for happy hour.
  5. Transmitter Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • Just a taproom with some seating, intertwined with the brewery itself. They offer you free tastings of 3 beers that they happen to be sampling at the time. Nothing else is really around, but their beer is tasty, making it worth the visit.
    • About the Beer:
      • They tend to have more unique, wild ale style beers. The F4 Brett Farmhouse Ale and the W3 Imperial Hibiscus Wit were quite tasty. Try of flight of their offerings.
  6. Threes Brewing Company:
    • About the Space:
      • Huge bar that happens to make their own beers. The inside seating area has a really cool atmosphere, plus they have a nice beer garden to sit under the stars during the summer months. Great place overall.
    • About the Beer:
      • They have a few beers of their own, plus some guest taps, which includes standard styles of beer that rotate. The Wandering Bine Saison and the Unreliable Narrator IPA are solid choices.
